October 18th to 21st
In the night of wednesday the 18th I arrived to Puno, close to the Titicaca lake. It is the highest navigable lake at 3,800m. The day after, I took a boat to the Amantani island. The boat stopped on the floating islands of Uros, made in totora reeds. It has become a quite touristic place, people who live there make a living selling artscraft.
Then the boat took me to the island of Amantani. The island families host tourists, so I was hosted by a local family. Fun experience, but I didn’t have much luck: the family was not very chatty, and they let me eat alone. I walked around the island in the afternoon, and again early the next mornig to see the sunrise.
On friday the 20th, I took a boat out of the island to the Capachica peninsula, not far away. From there I took a bus then another to go to Sillustani, where I had seen it was possible to visit funeral towers. These pre-inca and inca towers, are indeed quite impressive.
After visiting the towers, I took a bus to the bolivian border of Desaguadero, and from there took another bus going to La Paz, that left me in Tiahuanacu, where there is the biggest archeological site of Bolivia, Tiwanaku. I stayed the night before visiting this pre-inca site the next morning.
After visiting the site, I took a bud to la Paz, and continued my way to Coroico. I’ll tell you about it on the next post!
