After Montreal I went west, my first stop was Ottawa. It’s the capital city of Canada. I carpooled there from montreal, and stayed in an hostel that’s a former jail, pretty funny. They offer a daily tour of the jail, I took some pictures.
I visited the Parliament:
And walked around the city, it’s a pretty city and has some nice buildings and views.
The Rideau Canal crosses the city, in winter it’s frozen and is the longest skating rink in the world, it’s 7.8 kilometres (4.8 mi) long. At it’s end are the famous locks.
I was impressed by the completely frozen Ottawa river.
I had some time this week because I only had to be in Toronto for the weekend (you’ll see why later on), so after Ottawa I decided to stop at Kingston (in Ontario, not Jamaica). Calm little city, not that much to see but I spent a super two days because I did couchsurfing and was hosted by a 52 year old Canadian veteran, with a crazy house (see the pic of the party buffalo), a jacuzzi (head is at 0 degrees -because winter is warm, body at +40), and a lot of travel stories, so we shared some cool discussions over drinks.
He then dropped me off at a rest station on the highway to Toronto, which was a great spot for hitch hiking. I waited a little but a car picked me up and was headed directly to Toronto, so i was there in no time.
I spent two days in Toronto, the weather is not that great and the top of the buildings are in the clouds, but I liked the city!
Next to come: Thanks to my friend Timotei that recommended me the cool website Hitteroad.ca, I will be doing “car relocation”: I have to drive somebody’s car from Toronto to Los Angeles in 10 days, so it’s gonna be a real american road trip, I’m excited!
